How Child Support is Calculated in North Dakota

North Dakota

Child support payments in North Dakota are calculated using the income percentage method. Payments are calculated as a fraction of the non-custodial parent’s income. The more children involved, the higher amount that will generally have to be paid.

North Dakotans paying the most child support have high incomes and multiple children. The biggest recipients of child support are parents with primary care of multiple children where the paying parent has a high income.

The Adjustment for Parenting Time schedule is for use when a court order provides for extended parenting time with the obligor that exceeds an annual total of 100 overnights.

Child support can be arranged out of court by a mutual support agreement between the parents, or can be decided in North Dakota family court through a child support order. In North Dakota, a number of factors are taken into account when determining the amount of child support to be paid.

MaritalLaws

North Dakotan child support guidelines apply to the whole state, including the cities of Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, Minot and West Fargo. Variations in support payments may be made by the agreement of parents or at the discretion of a judge presiding over your case.
